Starting life as a Goalkeeper at junior level, Gareth picked up the nickname "The Cat" before deciding to try his luck as an outfield player. He Started his senior career at Croeserw United in 2005, becoming a regular in the Second team as a goalkeeper before pushing his way into the First team, becoming their first choice number 1. He transfered from Croeserw United in 2008 to join up with Abercregan Refresh where he managed to win the League Cup & finish 2nd in the League. In 2009, Gareth was left without a team when Abercregan-Refresh folded, so tried his luck with Caerau Boys Club but only playing a number of games before taking a break from the game. In 2010, he joined up with the Athletic as a Left Back. He managed to gain promotion with the club and pick up a runners up medal.
